The Rainbow-Serpent. This painting is inspired by Oshunmare (Portuguese: Oxumarê; Yoruba: Òṣùmàrè), an Orisha from the Yoruba pantheon present in modern-day African-Brazilian religions such as Candomblé and Umbanda (as well as in the traditional religion of the Yoruba people in West Africa).
In Brazil, Oshunmare is an Orisha of good fortune, wealth, and making a comeback after a misfortune - who spends half the year as a snake on the ground and the other half as a rainbow in the sky. This Orisha also spends half the year as a female and half the year as a male.
Btw, this design is not intended as a religious representation of the Orisha and does not follow the depiction of Oshunmare in a worship context, nor any canonic rules for the representation of this Orisha. This is rather a fantastical interpretation of this deity.
